Applications were open for the Asia Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG) Fellowship 2026. Each year, APSIG brings together a diverse group of emerging leaders from across the region to build the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to shape a more inclusive Internet.
📢 Community Update
Dear APSIG Community,
Thank you to everyone who raised concerns about the absence of event dates and venue information in our recent Fellowship 2026 circular. We appreciate the feedback, and we want to address it directly and transparently.
Why the dates and venue weren’t included initially:
At the time the Fellowship call was published, we were still finalizing arrangements with our local host and did not want to share information that could change. We chose to open applications first so that prospective fellows would have the maximum possible time to prepare, rather than delaying the call until every detail was locked in. In hindsight, we recognize this created confusion, and we’re sorry for that.
Tentative Dates and Venue:
We can now share the following, on a tentative basis, while final confirmation with our local host is completed:
- Dates: 29 November – 3 December 2026
- Location: Taipei, Taiwan
We will send a follow-up announcement once these are fully confirmed.
Extended Application Deadline:
In response to the community’s feedback that applicants, particularly those from a wider range of economies, need sufficient time to prepare strong applications, we are extending the Fellowship application deadline:
New Deadline: Friday, 21 August 2026, 23:59 (UTC+8)
How the APSIG fellowship works
We’re grateful to this community for holding us accountable and helping us improve how we communicate. Going forward, we’ll make sure future circulars include tentative dates and venue information from the outset, updating them as details are confirmed.

Eligibility Criteria
- This Fellowship is open to individuals from the Asia Pacific region who are 18 years old or above with a strong interest in Internet governance.
- Professionals, academics, researchers, civil society members, and representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations.
- Proficiency in English is required, as APSIG sessions will be conducted in English.
- Relevant demonstrated knowledge, background and interest, e.g. attending webinars, relevant courses, or meetings, whether remote or in-person.
- Willingness to adhere to APSIG’s expected standards of behavior.
- APSIG alumni are not eligible to apply.
- Conference hoppers or people who habitually attend events but do not contribute to the community will not be preferred.
- Females, Persons with Disabilities, and other marginalized communities are encouraged to apply.
- Motivation and a post-school community engagement plan are highly desirable.
- Staff members, blood relatives, and any other close association with APSIG sponsors, Executive Committee, or Fellowship Committee members are not eligible.

The APSIG 2026 Fellowship closed on Friday 21 August 2026 at 23:59 UTC+8. The round is now with the Fellowship Committee, and selected fellows will be announced on this site and on the APSIG mailing list.
How applications were made
Applications were submitted through the APNIC Fellowship Portal and closed on 21 August 2026. Review the eligibility criteria above carefully before applying, and be ready to share your motivation and how you plan to stay engaged with the Internet governance community afterward.
Applications for 2026 have closed. The next round opens in 2027 and is announced here and on the mailing list.
